Rib/Stomach muscle problem

by portoman » Sat Apr 28, 2012 1:30 pm

Hi

I know I need to go to the doctor about this but I thought Id post here too.

When Ive been doing pull ups with my push up bar Ive been getting a twinge around the left rib cage/stomach area - it feels like it is half in and half out of the rib area. It doesnt hurt too much but I know it isnt right and Im not sure how I did it. Having said that it aches when I sleep on my left side at night but doesnt when I laugh or eat or breath etc. It seems a bit of a difficult area to do anything about.

Has anyone one else had the problem?

This probably isn't the same thing, but about a year ago I popped out one of my "floating" ribs (the bottom ribs of the chest that are fixed in place by cartilage instead of attaching to the sternum) from its cartilage casing. I was on vacation doing some caving and to get from a lower chamber to a higher one, I had to pull myself up hand-over-hand on a rope. While pulling, I felt a "sproing" in my lower-left rib area. For months afterwards, this rib would at odd times slide in and out of the cartilage that had ruptured and normally kept the rib in place. It was a weird feeling. I saw my doc, and he told me there was nothing that could be done -- it might heal back in place or it might not. There were no restrictions on my activity and after 3 or 4 months I was lucky and it healed. It was never painful, but it sure was strange feeling that rib sliding around.
