Then one day I decided I needed to really work out my legs on the leg press machine. After a set of struggling with an extra heavy weight, my heart started racing, I got really light-headed and dizzy, and I was really nauseated. Very, very unpleasant. I didn't get medically evaluated afterwards, but I definitely took it easier on workouts for the next couple of weeks. I don't think GERD had anything to do with what happened to me. That diagnosis is something I got a couple decades later. I think I just pushed too hard before my body had time to adapt to a metabolically challenging exercise program.

Ugh. That was probably 30 years ago, and it's still distasteful to just think about it.

Yep, I'm ok, but I felt somewhat nasty for about 2-3 minutes after interrupting my stappers. I will get a medical check, just in case, and I'll make the following modifications to my workout:

1) I won't repeat the undulating block for the next workout (1st class), because I feel that 8 weeks of undulating block is just too much.
2) I will limit myself to just 6-10 minutes of stappers, until they feel comfortable. Then inch my way up.
3) I will not skip another workout day. I feel like I've gotten a bit out of shape. With all the snow and "winter blues" , that always gets to me, I kinda lost my appetite for working out. But that's gone now, and I'm back on track, working ever other day, just like before. So it's one more undulating block day, starting tomorrow and then it's on to the next program.

I will finish this book! :)

Remark: Did all the reps!

Difficulty Rating: 8/10

Comment: Ok, back on track, 4 more days, and it's on to the 1st Class Program. Frankly I can't wait. I hope I'll be able to see some real results this summer. :D

Week 4 (17) - Day 2 : Complete

Remark : Did all the reps.

Difficulty Rating: 8/10 (I think I'm a bit out of shape, because of not keeping up the program as I used to. I have remedy this.)

Comment: Well, somewhat difficult day, but I think I'm also a bit out of shape. Can't wait to finish this week, and go on to the 1st Class Program, and get back to my usual workouts.

Thanks for your log it's inspiring to read!

I'm finishing week 4 of the basic program today and even before I read your log I feared the stappers!

I include an interval session of 3x12 4 count bodybuilders as a warmingup or cool down in every workout and I intend to increase that a little (and put in some other exercise) as preparation for the stappers in the undulating block, I hope it will help me ease into the stapers!

Week 4 (17) - Day 3 : Complete

Remark: Did all the reps.

Difficulty Rating : 7/10

Comment: Tabata day. 2 days left, and I'm finally done with the damn Beginner Program. WOHOO. :D

@h_misc : Hy man, thanks for reading my log ! :) Well, I don't know, maybe you're in better physical shape than I am, I'm 2 days away from finishing the Beginner Program, and still can't even do 10 minute-stappers all the way. Maybe it's something I have to work up to. I've been somewhat sloppy with my timing the last 2-3 weeks, taking longer breaks than I should (days of rest), etc, I will take care of that once I start the 1st Class Program. Maybe by the time I get to the undulating block, I'll be able to do the damn stappers ... Cheers and good luck! :D

Week 4 (17) - Day 5 : Complete

Remark: Did most of the reps.

Difficulty Rating: Beyond space and time...

Comment: This was the final day of the Beginner Program. It's finally over. I did 2 rounds (10 lunges, 8 let me ins, 6 push-ups) every 5 minutes, so I managed 8 rounds in 20 minutes. I know this can hardly be called a stapper, but even so, it felt damn right intense. I understand that I missed a lot of workout days, during the last 2 weeks, I'm not looking for excuses. Glad this is the end of the first step, and I can see pretty small results, although this winter, my nutrition suffered badly (...LOTS of carbs...). Didn't get fat, but didn't get any thinner either. But my muscles are clearly bigger and more visible.
So, where to, from now?

Tomorrow is a rest day, and the day after is the first day of the 1st class program . I've put my new workout calendar on the wall, and I'll do my best not to miss any more workout days. I want that muscular body, and I will have it. After finishing this first step of the program, the goal seems a lot closer. Well within reach! ;) See you Tuesday! :D I am a noob no more!

END OF THE BEGINNER PROGRAM !

Qub mate, that's really awesome achievement! Do you realize you've just stuck with a strong routine for months? Most people do a routine for a couple of weeks and quit, it just shows how much you want it.

I would personally recommend a few days rest (I took 11 days) but it may be that if you stop you'll get out of the habit, it really is an amazingly refreshing rest though and the recovery is important (waking up not aching anywhere is a great gift)

ON TO FIRST CLASS!
