push up bar

Hi,

Is it really necessary to has a push up bars? Is it better than using two stools, or boxes? There are many comments that having my hands on a flat surface will injure my wrist, what is your opinion?

Well, here's my opinion, Kian. I think for most of us push up bars aren't needed. But if you're getting wrist strain and pain from the movement, the bars would be worth a try.

Hi Bark50,

So am I rite to say that after do hundreds and even thousands of push ups, you are not experiencing any injury or side effect in your wrist? Thus the claim of injury to your wrist when doing hand flat push up is only an individual case-by-case situation?

My guess is that bark50 would agree with that. I, too, have wondered if I need push-up bars, but I just did a workout this morning in which I did 95 pushups, and I'm not having any wrist pain. From what I have seen and read, people use them to alleviate wrist pain and to get a deeper stretch / better range of motion. However, you want to be careful not to go too far with that range of motion as you could strain the muscles in your chest and shoulders. Also, from what I have seen and read, if you begin to have wrist pain, using push-up bars can help alleviate that so it's not as if once you have wrist pain from push-ups you will always have it. It's not a chronic injury. So, my advice would be to get them if you want to, but it's not necessary. If you don't want to buy them or if you think that you don't need them, keep doing hands flat push-ups and if you run into wrist pain buy them at that time. The wrist pain should be alleviated and should not be a lingering issue.

I've had no problems with my wrists, Kian. I like mikhou's suggestion that the equipment could be purchased if you start feeling some strain later on. But there's no problem having a push up bar now. If the choice is getting a push up bar and doing push ups or not getting the bar and worrying about injury (or not doing push ups at all), then I'm all for someone getting one!
