Tennis elbow

by robbyh » Mon Aug 08, 2011 10:50 pm

I have been doing yayog but I noticed that my elbow started hurting. I laid off for 5 weeks and started back and noticed my elbow was hurting again. I went to the doctor and they said I have tennis elbow. I was wondering what you thought of this idea.
Instead of doing the arm days to just do legs one day and core the next. Alternating for 4 days and then resting for 3 days.
Any other idea would be much appreciated.
Thanks

A very old topic, but I'll add my tuppence worth, regardless...

I've had tennis elbow for some time now, caused by a combination of my work and Kendo. If anything, the YAYOG program seems to help rather than make it worse. Tennis elbow is something you generally have to put up with, as it's very persistent - I know some folks who've had it for years.

Wear a tennis elbow brace while doing YAYOG, and buy the book 'Treat your own tennis elbow' by by Jim Johnson. There are some exercises in there to help get it sorted, and I've found them very useful. When I was first diagnosed with tennis elbow I took two months off Kendo - it didn't make much difference one way or the other if I'm honest, and in the end I decided that the risk was worth it (I love my Kendo - it helps keep me sane!).

The book is the key, I'm sure - the exercises are fairly basic (in essence, there's one exercise and one stretch to do), but it has certainly helped me. Naproxen has also had an effect - I've only got another week on my current prescription and it'll be interesting to see how I do without it. If things don't go horribly worng, I'll be more than happy to stop taking it - the less time spent putting prescription drugs into myself, the better, as far as I'm concerned, and if I can manage without, I'll be content!
